Let There Be No Insanity!

Hi all! I know it’s been a while and I’m sorry! I don’t post until I feel led to. I wrote parts of this post a while back to save it for the right time. I pray this is a blessing to you and helps you during times of frustration.

Mark 10:13-15 says “Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.”

As I’m reflecting and preparing for Sunday, a teachable moment from a student and gentle reminder from the pure at heart tugged at my heart as I was thinking about my students from the past year and the children this past week at Kids Camp ❤️ Children have sincerity, innocence, and faith like no other. It really pleases the Lord so much so that he desires all of us to be like children in some of our ways. I know I love to watch and see how they think and work! Children really are funny and amazing humans! I think they come to this world smarter and smarter than ever before. I can only imagine the humor that the Lord gets from watching us all.

A few months back, I was working with a student. At the time, I was so tickled by the response of a student that it made me laugh on the inside and smile on the outside. I tucked it away so I could remember it because it brought so much joy and laughter to the room. The response really made my day and it has stuck with me since it happened. However, the response has also gotten me to thinking since it happened.

Let’s review!

Student works a problem and says “I don’t want a decimal.” I reply “Work the problem again.” The student tries again and replies “I don’t want a decimal. “ I reply “Work the problem again. “ The student continues to use the same strategy and says “A decimal!“ You could see the wheels spinning in the brain. The student was really processing and thinking. Frustrated, the student sighs and whispers “Maybe I’m doing this wrong!” I chuckled and encouraged the student to stop and go back later to try again. Now the student never did get the correct answer. It’s not because the student wasn’t using a good strategy that was taught by a teacher. I was actually very proud that the student remembered the strategy. The student got it wrong because they were using the wrong strategy for the kind of problem they were working.

Here’s what I have been thinking.

The definition of insanity is if you keep doing the same things the same way each time, you will end up with frustration. Well, maybe you’re doing it wrong!

People who desire to lose weight will not lose weight if they continue to eat unhealthy meals and not excerise. You have to make smarter choices and change the lifestyle or you will become frustrated.

People who desire a closer walk the Lord will not draw closer to God if they continue to not pray, fast, or read the Word of God. If you do not push away from the table or tablet to spend time with the Lord, you will become stuck and frustrated.

Sometimes we bring about insanity in our lives because we are not willing to change our method or strategy, which leads to frustration and depression. I can imagine the Lord encouraging us and saying “Try again!” He probably also gets tickled at us from time to time.

We’ve got to change our ways! We can apply this all areas of life. Family, church, finances, work, relationships, etc. We’ve got to become like children with our sincerity, innocence, and faith! We’ve also got to go to him in everything, especially when we’re frustrated. Take it to the Lord in prayer as the old hymn goes. He will lead us and guide us on what to do and how to do.

Stop, reset, pray, and try a different method or strategy to move forward.

Now, what if I do something different like adding 10 more lbs to lifting weights or 10 more minutes of prayer and I don’t see or feel a difference?

Stop, reset, pray, and try a different method or strategy to move forward. The change may not be overnight! Sometimes it is a process like adding more sets of 12 or praying for 5 more minutes. You just have to keep working at the problem until you find what works. You may get frustrated but don’t give up! The Lord will bless your effort. Keep trying and adapting until you reach the goal. Trust God and have faith like a child.

Happy Sunday!
